Track and Measure
Part of the 90-Day Magnetic Pipeline System

Know Which Part Is Doing the Work

A pipeline with eight moving parts produces one outcome, and without measurement there is no way to tell which of the eight produced it. Tracking is what turns a month that went well into something you can repeat on purpose. It is one of the eight parts of the Magnetic Pipeline System, and it is the part that makes the other seven accountable.

You Know It Is Working. You Cannot Tell What Is Working.

Most founders are not flying blind so much as flying on the wrong instruments. There are numbers everywhere. Followers, impressions, open rates, site visits. All of them real, none of them answering the only question that decides where next month goes, which is which part of this produced a client.

  • radio_button_checked The dashboards count the platform. Impressions, followers, open rates. All real numbers, none of which tell you whether the pipeline produced anything this month.
  • radio_button_checked Nobody can name what produced the best client. The one everybody is pleased about arrived from somewhere, and the honest answer about where is usually a shrug and a guess.
  • radio_button_checked A bad month has no explanation. Something was down, nothing says which part, so the response is to do more of everything and hope one of them was it.
  • radio_button_checked The numbers live in five places. LinkedIn, the email tool, site analytics, the CRM and a spreadsheet, each with its own definition of a lead.
  • radio_button_checked Reports get made and never read. A monthly PDF nobody opens, because it reports activity rather than answering a question anyone was actually asking.

The result is that good months and lucky months are indistinguishable, and you cannot repeat either one deliberately.

What Changes When the Pipeline Is Measured

Nothing about the work changes. What changes is that you can tell which of it was worth doing.

You Know What Produced the Client

The good ones stop being lucky. When the source is traceable you can go back and do the thing that worked again, on purpose.

You Stop Funding What Never Worked

The channel that has produced nothing in six months stops quietly taking your Tuesdays, because now there is a number saying so out loud.

Decisions Get Smaller

The question stops being whether to rebuild everything and becomes which single stage to work on this month, which is a far easier thing to actually do.

Where Tracking Sits in the Magnetic Pipeline System

It is the seventh layer, and it is the one that judges the six above it. Every part of the system produces something countable: profile views, page conversions, downloads, replies, conversations, clients. Tracking is where those stop being separate tallies in separate tools and become one view of which part is carrying the pipeline and which part is being carried.

It depends entirely on the layer directly above it. A number is only as good as the record underneath it, and you cannot attribute a client to a source that was never written down at the moment the lead arrived. Measurement is also where the last layer gets its instructions, because an experiment without a baseline is just a change.

Tracking Is One Part of the Magnetic Pipeline System

Measuring a pipeline that is not producing anything only tells you that precisely. The Magnetic Pipeline System is the other seven parts built around it over ninety days, so the numbers have something worth counting and the decisions have somewhere to land.
